Kolam and Coast
A cyclone-ready coastal wheel on a three-point tripod beside a long monsoon roof and stormwater promenade.

Chennai meets the Bay of Bengal along one of the longest urban beaches anywhere, and the city's public life has always used that edge in the evening rather than the middle of the day. It is a Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam city with a strong performance calendar, and simultaneously an automotive, electronics and software manufacturing centre. Its climate is hot, humid and cyclone-exposed, with a north-east monsoon that arrives late in the year.
Cultural material is used here as design logic: geometry, proportion, circulation, material and climate response: never as applied surface decoration. No temple, mosque, monument, government building or sacred object is copied, and no religious imagery appears on capsules, tickets, merchandise or commercial space.
Chennai Eye uses a three-point tripod support so its silhouette and engineering respond directly to the coastal site.
One seaward mast and two wide landward legs meet a braced axle frame, creating visible structural depth from the promenade.
A deep lattice rim, straight radial cables and sealed cabins respond to wind, salt and cyclone exposure.
Kolam geometry is used only in paving and shade screens. The long terminal roof and visible drains do the environmental work.

Chennai Eye is a design direction. There is no award, contract, financing, concession, approval or construction start associated with it, and nothing on this page should be read as one. Each city project would be structured, financed and contracted independently.
